The Importance of Play"It’s not so much what children learn through play, but what they won’t learn if we don’t give them the chance to play. Many functional skills like literacy and arithmetic can be learned either through play or through instruction – the issue is the amount of stress on the child. However, many coping skills like compassion, self-regulation, self-confidence, the habit of active engagement, and the motivation to learn and be literate cannot be instructed. They can only be learned through self-directed experience (i.e. play). "
-Susan J. Oliver "Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning…They have to play with what they know to be true in order to find out more, and then they can use what they learn in new forms of play."
-Fred Rogers "Through our years of research we have come to the conclusion that play is to early childhood education what gas is to a car. It is the very fuel of every intellectual activity that our children engage in."

"As soon as I entered LPC, I felt like I was home. The staff was incredibly sweet and respected my daughter's inability to converse verbally. They really listened to my concerns, answered my questions and reassured me that they would do everything in their power to help make the school year a happy one...She had learned a remarkable amount at LPC without it ever feeling like 'work'. She learned through play and gained a wonderful foundation to build from. I am so grateful that this preschool was an option where we live. I highly recommend it to any parent wondering where to send their little ones."

"I am a teacher and I wanted to make sure my own children were not only having fun at preschool but also learning the everyday lessons that will make the transition to school successful. My oldest daughter attended Lanesville for 2 and a half years. She loved it and thrived there. I believe it has helped to prepare her for Kindergarten this year. My youngest daughter is now at LPS and she too loves it. They both could not wait to go to Lanesville and see what they would learn that day. They also adore the staff there as do I. Truly an amazing place."
